How long a renovation takes

Before we start

From first site visit to a detailed quote in your hands is normally a matter of days. After that, the wait is design decisions and lead times on materials — particularly cabinetry, stone and anything imported. Choosing finishes promptly is the single biggest thing within your control.

On site

Bathrooms and kitchens are both multi-week jobs rather than multi-day ones. Bathrooms carry a fixed constraint nothing can compress: waterproofing has to cure before tiling, and tiling has to set before fit-off. Anyone promising a full bathroom in a week is skipping something that matters.

Why renovations run late

In our experience, three causes account for most of it. Late decisions on finishes, which stall ordering. Materials that arrive later than promised. And what gets found once the room is open — rot, failed waterproofing, or plumbing that cannot be reconnected as it is.

The first two are largely avoidable with early decisions. The third is why we look hard before quoting rather than after starting.

Living in the house while we work

Most clients do. For a single-bathroom home we plan the sequence to keep the room out of action for as short a stretch as possible, and we will tell you honestly at quoting stage what that period looks like. For kitchens, a temporary setup with the fridge, microwave and kettle elsewhere covers most of it.

What we commit to

A realistic schedule in writing with your quote, and updates as things move — including when they move the wrong way. We would rather tell you about a two-week delay early than let you discover it.
