Preparing your home

A short, practical list. Getting these sorted before day one makes the whole job quieter and faster.

Clear the room, and the route to it

Everything out of the room itself, and a clear path from the front door or side gate. We carry a lot of material in and a lot of debris out, and a clear run protects your floors and walls as much as it speeds us up.

Parking and access

Tell us early if parking is restricted, if there is a permit zone, or if the only access is through the house. In the inner west and around Caulfield this is a genuine constraint on some streets, and knowing it in advance changes how we schedule deliveries.

Dust

We seal off work areas and protect floors along the access route, but renovation is a dusty business and no amount of plastic makes it disappear entirely. Soft furnishings, artwork and anything valuable near the work area are better moved before we start.

Pets and working from home

Both are workable, and plenty of our clients do both. Tell us and we will plan around it — which gates stay shut, which days are loud, when the water and power need to go off. If you take calls for a living, we can usually flag the noisiest stages in advance.

Decisions

The most useful preparation is not physical. Having your tiles, tapware, fixtures and finishes chosen and ordered before we start is what keeps a job moving. Most delays we see begin as an unmade decision.
